Max was the happiest of children, always smiling and spreading joy. When he was seven months old he contracted bacterial spinal meningitis and spent a month in Sparrow Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. His incredibly strong will and determination helped him overcome the illness. Because of his meningitis, Max needed seven surgeries, including a cochlear implant to help restore his hearing. At the time, he was the youngest in Michigan to receive the implant. No matter how many surgeries, hospital stays or therapy appointments, Max never complained and always overcame the obstacles placed before him.
Max died March, 12, 2005 at the age of six from complications from meningitis.
